Our Company

The sensor technology behind Bloodhound™ was invented in the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Department at the University of Leeds and developed by a ‘spin-out’ company, Bloodhound Sensors Limited, formed in 1995 to exploit the research. The company carried out extensive development work with funding from feasibility and research contracts to produce the first Bloodhound™ BH114 instrument in 1997.  Since then Bloodhound™ products have been sold for use in many technical fields. Technical papers have been published by research teams using the Bloodhound™ BH114 and these demonstrate its potential in a wide range of application areas.

Today, the development of Scensive is led by the biotechnologist and leading expert in the electronic nose field, Dr Tim Gibson.   He and electronics engineer Rob Chandler were key members of the original Leeds based team which developed the Bloodhound™ instrument.  Together they bring a wealth of knowledge and technical experience to the business.

The business is backed by venture capital from the Yorkshire based Viking Fund and a group of private and trade investors. In 2005 Scensive acquired the assets of Bloodhound Sensors Limited from the University of Leeds and began manufacturing its own Bloodhound™ products based on upgraded BH114 technology.

The applications for this technology are almost unlimited and Scensive is establishing strategic partnerships with organisations who recognise the potential for this technology and wish to develop application specific products.
